Okay, so I´ve spent like 20 hours trying to get FMCB to my slim PS2 SCPH-90004 V18 (NO MODCHIP OR ANY DISC). So far I´ve had bad luck with every dam,n aspect in the process, but finally I got this far: 1) Blocked the first sensor and the disc brake (seems 90004 doesn´t have the third at all, just as the silver model) 2) Bought 007 AUF and made a backup disc putting the ulaunch.elf there as driving.elf and played to the 2nd level. 3) Put FMCB to an USB drive (first formatted it to FAT32) So everything is ok until here, I get to the ulaunch v4.39 screen, select mass-freemcboot.elf, but the install won´t start! And funny is, that the older version I try, the longer I get: FMCB 1.8b/1.8: Freezes straight to the 'Loading.' FMCB 1.7: I get to the fmcb screen but freezes to 'Detecting MC'. FMCB 1.6: 'Detecting MC' - 'Install start!'
FMCB 1.5: The same as 1.6. Could this be my memory card: 'Max Memory 16mb'???
Or what is wrong?? I tried to run the install with burning it to a CD-R according to the tutorial but when I swap the disc at the ulaunch, it just spins too slowly and ps doesn´t read it (tried also with CD-RW and DVD-R).
I was quite bored so I decided to write a tutorial since there wasn't anyone existing for this option. (Well, they weren't working for me.) I tried with both USBeXtreme and HDAdvance 3.0. Even with the HDLoader included in the FMCB-package.
All three options succeeded. I'm sorry if this is somehow mentioned before but I didn't find anything when searching the forums. It isn't in the tutorial page either. So come up with your comments and opinions about this. Code: BOOT2 = cdrom0: PS2LOAD.ELF;1 VER = 1.00 VMODE = NTSC/PAL (for vmode= put PAL or NTSC (depending on the region of your console)) Save the file as SYSTEM.CNF and place it together with the.ELF-files, the SCEEDD-folder and MSYSTEM.CNF.
Great, you should now have the following files: SYSTEM.CNF PS2LOAD.ELF MSYSTEM.CNF BOOT.ELF and 'SCEEDD'-folder containing: IOPRP16.IMG IOPRP165.IMG IOPRP20.IMG IOPRP202.IMG If not then you're doing it WRONG. RESET otherwise continue. Extract 'CDGenPS2v3.rar' and run CDGenPS2.exe. Drag and drop the files to the program in the following order: 1. SYSTEM.CNF 3.
PS2LOAD.ELF 4. MSYSTEM.CNF 5.
BOOT.ELF I'm not really sure of what difference the order of the files makes but I haven't tried elsewise.Optional. Rightclick on each file, choose edit, tick 'Fix LBA' and add the following in the textbox. SYSTEM.CNF = 11336 PS2LOAD.ELF = 10909 MSYSTEM.CNF = 10908 BOOT.ELF = 11337 This is optional because I managed to launch LaunchELF both with fixed LBA-values and without, some slight speed-improvement with fixed LBA and somewhat larger filesize is what I saw differed.
Now click on the IMG-button in the sidebar. Save it as a.iso with a name of your choice.USBeXtreme-specific. Mount the.iso-image to a image mounting software of your choice (Daemon Tools Lite in this case.) Use either the windows-installer or the DOS-installer of USBeXtreme Software. My USB-thumbdrive wasn't detected by the Windows-installer so I used the DOS-installer.
Instrucions for the DOS-installer: Hit Window + R on the keyboard to access 'Run'(or access it through the Startmeny) Type 'cmd' without captions. Browse to the folder where USBeXtreme Software is located. Type 'ulinstall X Y 'Nameofyourchoice' DVD' (without single quotes). Replace X with the drive letter of your mounted image and replace Y with the drive letter of your USB-drive. Press Enter to continue. Instrucions for the windows-installer: Launch the USBeXtreme Software Select your image drive as CD-DVD ROM Drive. Select DVD as Media Type and select your USB drive as Hard Drive.
Then click 'Start'. If your USB-drive is not detected by the software then you can run the DOS-installer or select another Hard Drive and copy it from the Hard Drive to the USB-drive manually.HDLoader/HDAdvance-specific. Run WinHIIP and select 'Add Image(s)'.
Browse to the.iso you created through 'CDGenPS2' and select 'start'. The image should be added to your IDE HDD and you can unplug it and insert it to the PS2.
Copy the 'FRREMCBOOT.ELF' and the 'INSTALL'-folder from the FMCB Noobie Package to the USB-drive. And you should really be done (with the preperations that is to say).USBeXtreme-specific.
Plug the USB-drive to the PS2 and start USBeXtreme. You should see a file named 'CDGENPS2' or something else if you selected a different volume name in CDGENPS2. Anyways, start the file and you should see the screen flashing nicely.HDLoader/HDAdvance-specific. Start HDLoader/HDAdvance with the IDE HDD plugged in. You should see a file named 'CDGENPS2' or something else if you selected a different volume name in CDGENPS2. Anyways, start the file and you should see the screen flashing nicely. A program called PS2Loader should load now.
It is in spanish, so if you don't like spanish you can press the circle-button to change the language to english. Press X to continue and select uLaunchELF in the meny. The screen flashes again and you will access LaunchELF.
Press circle, select 'mass' (which is your USB-drive). Press circle on 'FREEMCBOOT.ELF and congratulations you are able to install Free McBoot on your Memory Card. (Well it requires that you have sufficient space on the memory card, since the multi-installer requires at least 3,6 MB of free space) Install the software, wait for it to complete and reboot to see the magic of FMCB. Could you not just convert an ULE CD/DVD image to USB Extreme format? I tried like five times. But it didn't work.
The conversion did complete but it complained something about 'filenametoolong'-error and it wouldn't display in USBeXtreme. I tried even adding ULE CD/DVD image (both CD and DVD) to the HDD (with both CD and DVD-option tested) and run it through HDAdvance 3.0 (with both the CD and the DVD-version). This only resulted in a black screen (Even with mode 3 ticked). Last edited by Kreepy; at 10:35 AM.
Reason: Clarification. I tried like five times.

This only resulted in a black screen (Even with mode 3 ticked). You could probably have done it with a differently rebuilt uLE boot disc, using a name for the main boot elf that matches what USBExtreme and USBUtil expect from a normal game, such as 'SLES123.45' or some other spuriously invented game code. That's how I plan to do it myself, next time I prepare uLE ISOs for release.
Best regards: dlanor.
