Selain itu, tujuan umum di dalam meneliti program penghijauan dan reboisasi pemerintah, memiliki sasaran utama di dalam mengatasi lahan kritis.

(Jakarta, 12/04/10) “We (Ministry of Transportation - MOT) will support the greeening of Indonesia program in order to lessen the impact of global warming,” said Minister for Transportation, Freddy Numberi when planting mangrove trees at Ala Tourism Park, Pantai Indah Kapuk, North Jakarta, Saturday (12/04). The program called “Women’s Movement in Planting and Caring 2010” was a Government’s Program initiated by First Lady of Republic of Indonesia Ani Yudhoyono and was carried out by Dharma Wanita of all ministries/state institutions including the Dharma Wanita of Ministry of Transportation. The Minister said that the MOT would support this program by planting trees alongside coastal areas. “Ministry of Transportation will help, for example through Directorate General of Sea Transportation that will accomodate through Port Administrators to plant trees alongside the coastal areas,” explained the Minister. Moreover, the Minister said, Indonesia had been trying to lessen 26% gas emission in Indonesia. One of the efforts was by planting 1 billion trees all over Indonesia.

“Beside our efforts in using environment friendly fuels, this planting activities are useful as the absorbent for air pullution,” he said. In harmony with the Minister, the Minister’s wife, Ani Numberi, who accompanied the Minister at the tree planting also said that the planting of trees alongside coastal areas was important to prevent the damage of coastal line due to abrasion. “We have planted trees alongside coastal areas in order to protect seashore forest, to conserve coastal line so there will be no abrasion and damages alongside coastal areas,” she said distinctively. According to Ani, this program was a program of Solidarity of the Wives of Indonesia United Cabinet – Solidaritas Istri Kabinet Indonesia Bersatu (SIKIB). The tree planting program had been started since 2007 and it had a target to plant 1 billion trees.

“In 2008 we had planted 19 million trees and in 2009 we had planted 22 million trees. This activity done by SIKIB with the First Lady is to support the Government’s program toward 1 billion trees,” she closed the conversation.
