The real trouble with making 'complicated' games is the large-scale coding which requires a lot of debugging (it'll never work the first time around). If you're not the type to debug large heaps of code, you really won't find a niche here. Rather you may have more fun trying to code a simple, creative game or have someone else help you code it. And to some point, once you are experienced enough with coding things in general, you shouldn't have any trouble coding anything at all (unless it's advanced AI or physics) The best way to learn how to code something like this is to experiment. Try to make a little object move around the screen using just code. Then try to add gravity and acceleration and player controls.
You don't necessarily have to make a simple game first, but you need to learn how to code each major function of the game you wish to make. It should be easy to find tutorials for basics like controls. The only time I ever say 'Start with simple stuff then move to more complicated stuff like this.'
Is when the person has never programmed anything ever. Since you seem to have some experience, you should find it easier to get into.
Just remember not to invent an overly massive project; you're probably just a one-man development team and some things can take so long to code that you'll eventually lose interest. I suggest you try to learn the following through some experimentation: 1) Sprite movement (code an object to move a certain distance every frame) 2) Keyboard/Mouse controls 3) Artificial Intelligence (it doesnt even have to be smart.
Think of goombas from super mario bros) Once you grasp these concepts, the rest of the code should then fall into place. God, this game is incredible. The graphics are so smooth. I love the perfect dark music, and Shiri's Shoruken move. Some things that you should add in the next version, one or two more levels, even though the current ones are already well thought out. Oh, and a third character. That would be so awsome.
And if you could download this game, so you could play it offline, then it would prolby be the only thing i do for the next week. Keep up the good work, and let me know when the next version comes out.
